개회선언(21회 시카고 한인축제 2016.8.13-14 )
우리 민족에게는 5,000여 년 전부터 내세운 홍익인간이라는 말이 가슴에 와 닿지만, 근세 수 백 년동안, 동양의 대동이나 서구사회의 천부인권사상에 미치지 못했던 것도 사실이었다. 그러나 자유, 평등, 복지 등, 현대국가의 지향점이 전 인류의 행복을 채우지 못하면서 홍익-Prosperity가 현대국가가 지향할 목표로 환하게 등장하게 되었다. 오늘 21차 시카고 한인축제에서 홍익(弘益), PROSPERITY for ALL를 내세우고 함께 나가는 것은 더 잘살아보자고 미국 땅에 찾아 온 우리 한인들 모두에게 더 없는 즐거운 축제의 중심이 아닐 수 없다. 만세! 만세! 만만세!

5000 years ago, our Korean ancestors believed that our people should live every day to go forward and work to create prosperity for themselves and others. For several hundred years in modern history, however, other ideas have emerged and gained ground. For example, concepts like strict equality among all people, and other ideas such as our rights and freedoms are granted by God, have pushed the original beliefs of our ancestors aside.
But today, we can see the tide is turning back in the direction of our Korean ancestors. Today, the theme of our celebration is again prosperity for all people. We came to this country to pursue a better life – we stayed and worked so we could create prosperity for our families and others. We are still here today because we believe we can make this life a better one for ourselves and for others. We will continue to work hard believing that such work will lead to prosperity for all and result in a more harmonious community. So let’s celebrate today, and celebrate everyone’s efforts in making this world a better one for all. Man-se!
