우리 조국 한국의 유구한 역사에 뿌리를 두고 있는 우리의 가락과 몸짓을 담은 우리전통예술을 이 미국 땅에 심으려는 우리의 열망이 뭉치어, 오랜 망설임 끝에 미 중서부전통예술협회를 창립한지 어언 10주년을 맞게 되었습니다. 그동안 시카고 지역으로 이주 해온 여러 예술인들의 희생적 봉사와 눈물겨운 탁마상성으로, 이제는 모국의 지원이 있거나 없거나 해마다 창립을 기념하는 공연을 거르지 않고, 수준 높은 작품들을 선보이어, 내외 관중으로부터 열열 한 찬사를 받고 있습니다. 이는 전적으로 천부의 재능과 끝없는 정성을 모아 선배들의 기량을 습득하여 조국의 문화를 자랑하고, 그 전통과 정체성을 후세들에게 전승하려는 문화인으로서의 사명을 다하려는 이곳 예술인들과 이들을 한데 묶어 조화를 이루어가는 사계 지도자들의 노력의 산물이라고 하겠습니다. 그리고 외국에 사는 우리 동포들의 문화적 갈증을 해소하고, 조국의 아름답고 자랑스러운 문화의 현장을 해외에 널리 선양해야 한다는 사명감으로 이곳을 찾아주는 조국의 예술인들에게도 감사하고, 또한 이를 권장하며 도와주는 정부와 각계각층의 배려에도 우리가 감사와 박수를 아낄 수 없습니다.
이번에 “솟대”예술단을 모시고 무형무화재급의 아름다운 우리가락과 춤을 우리들에게 보여줄 공연은 수준 높은 기량을 우리 동포들에게 보여줄 뿐 아니라, 우리 들 2세의 꿈나무들에게 기 기예를 전수하는 연수가 계속될 것이라니 참으로 감사하지 않을 수 없습니다. 아무쪼록 이번 열리는 창립 제10주년 기념 공연도 주류사회의 우리 예술 이해와 동포사회가 어울러지는 한마당으로 더욱 빛나고 환호하는 무대가 되기를 열망하는 바입니다.
이와 같은 훌륭한 공연을 매년 성공적으로 계획하고, 추진하는 회장님 이하 모든 회원들에게 금년에도 큰 박수로 축하를 드립니다. 그리고 불원천리하고 찾아주신 조국의 “솟대” 예술인들이 이곳을 찾아주시어 이 기념공연을 빛내주시고, 수준 높은 예술의 기량을 관심 있는 동포들이 익힐 수 있도록 많은 워크숍을 열어주시는 희생적 노고에 감사들입니다. 아무쪼록 머무시는 동안 건강하시고 즐거운 여행도 겸하시길 기원합니다.
